'Pride & Prejudice' is one of Budding Entertainment's most popular productions and we are excited to bring it back in 2023 - four years after we first staged it!
This production course is for Semester 1 2023 and will end in a theatre production at Belconnen Theatre (see all dates and venues below).
Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen's witty and satirical story of love and life among English gentility during the regency era.
Mr Bennet is an English gentleman livingwith his overbearing wife, the hilarious and often vexed Mrs Bennet, and their five very different daughters: beautiful and gentle Jane; witty and fiery Elizabeth; bookish Mary; immature Kitty; and wildly flirtatious Lydia.
Unfortunately for the Bennet women, when Mr. Bennet dies, their house will be inherited by a distant cousin - the pompous clergyman Mr. Collins - and so the family's future happiness and security depends upon the daughters making good marriages.
Like the novel, the play opens with news of the arrival in the neighborhood of the rich gentleman Mr. Bingley and his sisters Miss. Caroline Bingley and Mrs. Hurst. "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife" - surely Mr. Bingley will fall in love with one of the Bennet girls!
Love is indeed in the air for one of the Bennet sisters when they meet Mr. Bingley at the assembly rooms, but no one is expecting the arrival of an even wealthier man - the proud and disagreeable Mr. Darcy...
For the Bennet sisters, many trials and tribulations stand between them and their happiness, including class, gossip, scandal, roguish army officers and of course... pride and prejudice.
Come and be part of Jane Austen's classic story in this BIG costume drama - we require a large cast to play a wife range of iconic and entertaining male and female parts!
