“Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they've got ambition, and they've got talent, as well as just beauty..."

Re-imagined in numerous films and theatrical productions, Louisa May Alcott's beloved classic Little Women has a special place in the hearts of many.

Our 2018, 2020 and 2022 productions were a huge hit, and we're excited to do it all over again in 2024 with a new cast seeking a dramatic challenge in this heart-warming story of family, love, creativity, resilience and independence.

This production requires both ‘tweens’ to play the younger versions of characters such as Jo, Amy, Beth, Meg and Laurie, and teenagers to play the older characters.

Note this is an INTENSIVE, one-term production! This means double the class time, equivalent to our usual semester courses. Performers must be committed to learning lines outside of class and attending each class fully prepared!

EVERY performer receives a speaking role in the production! This show is one of our most popular as there are SO MANY fantastic and memorable roles.

Roles for girls & young women - Marmee March, Aunt March, Jo March , Amy March, Beth March, Meg March, , Young Jo, Young Meg, Young Beth, Young Amy, Hannah (housekeeper), Mrs Hummel, Minna Hummel, Gretel Hummel, Ms Carroll, Susie Perkins, May Chester, Mr Davis, Annie Moffat, Mrs Kirke, Kitty Kirke, Minnie Kirke, etc.

Traditional male roles - Mr March, Older Laurie, Young Laurie, Friedrich Bhaer, Mr Fields & Mr Dashwood (publishers), Mr Davis, John Brooke (who Meg marries).

The course will end in a public production in the 160-seat Belconnen Theatre at 7.30pm on MONDAY 1ST JULY, 2024.

Note: this course is recommended for performers who already have some performing arts experience e.g. in a drama workshop or in a school play. If you are not sure if the course is suitable, please email the company director Kirsty to discuss at kirsty@buddingentertainment.com

SUCCESS STORIES!

Abbey Morgan who played Jo March

Lydia Milosavljevic who played Meg March in the same production went on to play Elizabeth Bennet in our 2019 production of Pride & Prejudice and Maria in Queanbeyan Players’ production of The Sound of Music. She is currently represented by our talent agency.

Lily Welling who played Beth March in our 2020 production of Little Women went on to study at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). CASTING PROCESS: WHAT YOUR CHILD OR TEEN NEEDS TO DO!

AFTER enrolling your child or teen using the form below...

1. Download the Audition Material which includes instructions.

2. The performer must be filmed performing a minimum of one and a maximum of two pieces from the Audition Material.

3. Re-name the video file as the performer's full name and age e.g. SALLY BROWN, AGE 13.

4. Upload the video to this folder by the deadline of 8pm Saturday 4th May (the day before your first class!)

AUDITION TIPS:
Don't be nervous! Every performer receives a speaking role and there are so many great speaking roles in Little Women! Enjoy yourself; this is just an opportunity to show us what you can do and to practise doing what you love!

The tutor will take into account this video AND the performer's participation in group activities at the first class e.g. working together as a cooperative team.

A script and roles will then be emailed to parents/guardians after Class 1, ready to start rehearsing in the second lesson!

Check out our YouTube channel to see many examples of monologue performances filmed at home!
