'A Christmas Carol Goes Horribly, Terribly Wrong'
Written & Directed by Kirsty Budding
It's back! Join the cast of our riotously funny Christmas comedy about a chaotic amateur theatre company staging a production of 'A Christmas Carol'. First performed by an adult cast, the play has been adapted over the years for young adult performers and continues to be an audience favourite in Canberra every Christmas.
Full of energy and humour, the play features a wide range of entertaining and memorable roles for performers. This production course is for Semester 2 2026 and will end in a theatre production at the 360-seat Overture Hall theatre in Weston.
Bursting with colourful characters, slapstick comedy, meta-theatrical chaos, and spectacular onstage mishaps, this farcical reimagining of Dickens’ classic "A Christmas Carol" is perfect for budding actors who love high-energy comedy and laugh-out-loud theatrical disasters. Expect collapsing professionalism, awkward improvisation, ghostly confusion, dramatic overacting, botched scene changes, rogue sound effects, and some of the most hilariously uncomfortable Christmas moments imaginable.
This production is for teen performers ages 12-19. Beginners and experienced teen performers are welcome.
How Do Auditions Work?
After enrolling in the course via this webpage, each performer needs to submit a video "audition" (instructions below).
All enrolled performers will receive a speaking role in this fun comedic production, so the video "audition" is really to introduce yourself to the director and to help the director see which part/s might suit you best. The director assigns roles after the first class based on
- video audition and
- observation of scene work involving all performers during Class 1.
NEXT STEPS (AFTER ENROLLING IN THE COURSE):
1. DOWNLOAD THE SCRIPT!
CLICK HERE to download the first two scenes from the script.
2. Choose a minimum of two characters and a maximum of five characters. Film yourself playing each character with someone else reading the other lines off camera. The length of each character read should be minimum of half a page and maximum of one page of dialogue E.g. if you want to audition as the Stage Mum, you might choose the section of dialogue on Page 8 where she has significant lines.
3. LABEL your videos with your FULL NAME and the CHARACTER NAME.
4. Submit your video audition TO THIS DROPBOX by 10pm Saturday 1st August 2026.
That's it! Easy!
HAVE FUN making your video/s and good luck!
